Title: Foreign Language
Description: Gahhhhhh!

Candi - April 2, 2008 01:05 AM (GMT)
Well see, I'm Chinese.
My parents always talk to me bout how its such a big language and how important it is and how beneficial it would be and....and how I should follow everyone o.0''

The thing is, I hated learning chinese cuhs it annoyed the shizzles outta me o.o See, I fail at writing even though my reading's okay.

I'm French-Canadian as well.
I've always wanted to stay in Canada or go to Europe (Frrance<3) when I grow up. I want to continue taking French but everyone's telling me that it's not very helpful.

I know that since its my race, I should take Chinese.
But I really want to know French as my foreign language class becuhs I love it xD It sounds so awesome <3
Gawsh, I'm confused.
What would you take?

AngelIvory - April 2, 2008 01:21 AM (GMT)
gahh i have the same problem as you =.=
my parents really want me to take chinese, but quite frankly, i dont think i can learn it anymore, my brain capacity to learn languages arent as good as they would have been so ill forget it if i dont practise everyday, and i doubt ill practise everyday v.v" writing and reading this is, i know the others XD
so my other choice is french or german, id rather do french cause i know more than i do chinese so id go with that, its up to you really, if you think you can learn chinese, then do it!!!

Candi - April 2, 2008 01:39 AM (GMT)
thnx <3

Its like, Im still not sure.
I actually happen to like French o.o But of course, that doesnt count for anything v.v''
I can't remember Chinese at all! I can read it but not write cuhs you actually have to memorize every stroke >.<''
All the asian ppl i know are telling me to take Chinese. My parents do have a good point when they say it'll help me in life....(not to mention translate more manga xD)

But French....its so....cultural xD

chasiewbao - April 2, 2008 04:28 AM (GMT)
i think that both are very good. If you are chinese, then it will be very impressive if you speak french, but at the same time, it is good to learn how to write chinese since it is sorta becoming more powerful? can you speak it? because that's already pretty good. I don't take chinese even though I'm chinese...I take Japanese XD

AngelIvory - April 2, 2008 05:45 PM (GMT)
if i know japanese better than i know chinese, i think my parents are gonna go crazy at me *XD

Candi - April 3, 2008 12:19 AM (GMT)
Yeah, im fluent in speaking chinese xD
Im okay with reading v.v''
Writing is rlly blah for me o.o

Kewl, I rlly wanna take Japanese xD My parents wont let me o.o They told me somethin' some bout a battle n bombing o.o'' Not sure, I was half asleep at the time v.v''

melukia - April 3, 2008 08:48 AM (GMT)
I've been forced to study Chinese for forever... And learning French sounds tempting... (yes, it sounds kwel~) Korean and Japanese sounds like fun, too~

But bleh Chinese. I guess if it wasn't forced upon me, I would have liked it more...

Candi - April 8, 2008 10:45 PM (GMT)
xD I was forced to o.o
But I quit.
Took 2 years for me to do so cuhs my parents were so persistent xD

piyoko!! - April 10, 2008 06:28 AM (GMT)
Learning french is kewl...and when you learn to speak it...you'll be all high and mighty. Haha, I mean French is classy. and romantic! I know several French phrases, and my favorite, Je ne comprends pas. Which means "I don't understand" haha

Candi - April 21, 2008 11:11 PM (GMT)
lol xD True, true XD
yeah, good phrase ;D I used to say that 24/7 in French Immersion ;]]

vampy - April 22, 2008 05:07 AM (GMT)
i was so close to taking French this year, but Choir was a bit more interesting , but next year im taking Japanese. i have a feeling im going to fail *CHOMP

chasiewbao - April 22, 2008 04:53 PM (GMT)
u won't fail, u can get all the japanese translators here to help u *XD

vampy - April 22, 2008 08:31 PM (GMT)
hahaha. . . . ummmm. . . would that be considered cheating??

chasiewbao - April 22, 2008 09:28 PM (GMT)
of course not! it's "helping" *GLINT

vampy - April 23, 2008 12:15 AM (GMT)
i see, so then next year when im stuck or about to fail, ill come here for help, watch that be like every single day *DROP

chasiewbao - April 23, 2008 08:01 PM (GMT)
*NOOO
not uh, japanese is easy and ur super smart =]

vampy - April 23, 2008 10:55 PM (GMT)
Japaneses is easy? i've always heard people say it's hard, well i think i might not learn much at the high school im going to next year, but i might not go to the high school closest to me anyways *XD well it's alright i'll come when im about to get a C, cause if i get another C or C+ im going to get killed, by my parents *DEAD also i don't want to disappoint them. *OMG i feel pressured all of a sudden.

Narumi - April 24, 2008 03:30 AM (GMT)
Wow, there's a lot more Asians here than I thought. Not that its a bad thing or anything because I'm Vietnamese, so I'm some type of asian.

But yeah my parents are trying to get me to learn Vietnamese, but I refused and took up Spanish and I'm fine.

Don't worry too much Candi. Just take what you like, it'll be fine as long as you can speak Chinese good enough. At least thats how it is for me.

icecheetah - April 25, 2008 04:43 PM (GMT)
I learned a little german at school and some japaneese.

Raine - April 26, 2008 01:59 AM (GMT)
lol if i got a C then i'd be DEAD in caps....o_O
>_> my marks are either always compared to someone else's who's better than i am or to my previous outrageously high marks (of which i will never be able to get again since it was back in elementary school =_=")

vampy - April 26, 2008 04:13 AM (GMT)
i know your pain, my parents are always comparing me to my best friend and she gets straight A's so it dosen't make me feel all that good, but now they're like "good, good, you only have A's and B+'s, that's my girl"and im like, i feel pressured, leave me alone *OMG you see when they say that it means that they know i can do better and that will led to my death *SIGH

AngelIvory - April 26, 2008 01:45 PM (GMT)
if i get lower than a B i die *DROP
its hard when your two older sisters had straight As and has now either graduated and in a stable job or about to graduate *WIPE
my parents are like "you're not smarter than your sister" of course, theyre older than me *DROP

vampy - April 26, 2008 04:03 PM (GMT)
it's ok, it's ok, i don't really know your pain because im the oldest, but im sure you have it hard *ARM

random - April 28, 2008 12:00 AM (GMT)
-joins in late-

Got the same problem. EXCEPT I'M ACTUALLY CHINESE. But I'm australian and they made me learn english, where no one else spoke chinese.

I actually learnt Chinese first - but then I forgot it all *DROP

And, one character can have 8 meanings.. gosh..

and when put together with other words, another 1234567890 meanings appear.

Apparantly Japanese is WAY harder - it uses the old CHinese characters which have more strokes. but look more beautiful :D
And then it has hiragana katakana and all that... *DROP
But it's easier to learn if you want to learn it. E.G. I can't learn CHinese cus I'm reluctant to. I can't find my way to liking it. Uurgh.

Mitsuki - May 1, 2008 09:41 PM (GMT)
I started Spanish in 8th grade and French in 9th. Then my hs dropped the foreign language programs so I started taking university classes for Japanese this year. Eh, I am thinking of minoring in Japanese next year, but other than that I am not seriously studying any languages because my parents are forcing me. Like my best friend is Chinese and until she moved to California, her parents dragged her to Michigan every weekend to learn Chinese.

vampy - May 2, 2008 01:28 AM (GMT)
oh chasiewbao, i don't think you have to worry im taking latin, before i take Japanese. So you won't have to worry about me till another 2 to 3 years *EVIL

mikariangel - May 3, 2008 09:04 PM (GMT)
lucky.. i still have to take french... *DROP

vampy - May 15, 2008 05:51 PM (GMT)
is French that bad?

chasiewbao - May 16, 2008 04:20 AM (GMT)
waah i hate romantic languages cuz u have to conjugate too much!!!

@vampy: OMG latin? sooo hard!! i could never do it! too much conjugation haha

chocolatesprout - May 16, 2008 10:40 AM (GMT)
i always get pretty low for my exams but once in a while i get good grades but if i get really bad i won't be killed they would just be like"why is it so bad?"then i'll be like smiling it off so i guess im lucky

and chinese isn't that bad unless your referring to traditional one then that is hard

candi i think you should take french it sounds much easier and cooler but IF you plan to be a businesswoman in the future maybe you should take chinese

icecheetah - May 16, 2008 10:41 PM (GMT)
I was browsing youtube, and I found this great korean lesson.
Korean lesson 1
I thought: Wow, I pronounced things completly wrongly!
Doesn't chinese have that strange tonal thing? I heard that the mandarin for thank you is "Shishi", but I think that I may say it in an insulting way... because whenever I say it, asking if I said it right, I don't get an answer.
I've found japaneese to be fairly easy so far, but maybe thats just because its similar to korean which has some surprising similarities to gaidhlig (korean: water with subject particle= Mu-ri gaidhlig: ocean= muir (mu-ir), which was my first language.
(edit: mul is water without the particle)

jurokume - May 17, 2008 05:03 AM (GMT)
i have never learned anyother language toiehr than english :( *OMG

AngelIvory - May 17, 2008 02:11 PM (GMT)
@ice its kinda hard to put it into pinyin *WIPE if you say it like "shishi" as if you would pronounce it in english then its wrong its more like "xie xie" hmm ths video will explain:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FsDiTIUT1KA

its in english so dont worry XD

Vee - May 17, 2008 06:13 PM (GMT)
I'm Polish ^^ and I loooooooove english *LOVE and of course japanese. i'm gonna study japanese or chinese... well i'm not sure which one ^^"

loooong time ago i studied russian... russian words are quite similar to polish... just like any other slavonic language XD

I just HATE german... i don't know why... =-=

chasiewbao - May 18, 2008 04:28 AM (GMT)
in mandarin chinese theres a whole alphabet and only four sounds so i think it's one of the easier chinese languages to learn

lil_mystic - June 7, 2008 09:27 PM (GMT)
well....lets just say im asian but then i might take french but i dont want to take it anymore i want to take japanesebut i dont feel like changing my schedule its too complicated.... *SIGH

jaderabbit - July 7, 2008 03:26 PM (GMT)
I'm starting college in Fall and plan on taking both. I've already studied French for 5 years and don't plan on just dropping it because I've already invested too much time on learning the language. However, I also want to improve my Mandarin which is currently at the level of a 4 year old~
I've mostly taught myself for the last 18 years so I can read quite a bit but I have major issues remembering how to write characters. *CHOMP However, I refuse to give up because I truly love my heritage....and it's really embarrassing that I can't read a restaurant menu when I go to China. *DROP So for the sake of food and family I shall continue to study!!
Hehe I also plan on learning Korean once (more, like if *RUN) I master French and Mandarin. XD Yeah, I'm crazy. o.o

Oh, and here's a good study resource : Chinesepod.com

Cherry_Delight08 - July 12, 2008 12:48 AM (GMT)
I am also french canadian!

I would chose French. Since in Canada french is very important because its the second language. You should talk to your parents about what language you want to chose, because you shouldn't be doing something in life that you don't want. Good luck!

P.S If you every need help in french I would be glad to help you *GOOD *GOOD

Princess Irene - July 22, 2008 06:57 AM (GMT)
Seems I'm the only one from South America^^'

Here in Brazil it's kind of... an obligation (at least at my home it is) learn English.
I've done English classes for a long time and just stopped after I've done my FCE test. (Cambridge )
At my elementary school we also have Spanish classes, and I had for a year at high school, but I think I should go for a Spanish course (as well as a French one) next year because I've not learn enough.
I always want to learn some oriental language, what is the more easier?
It's so hard to find a place that teaches Chinese or Japanese here... :(

welcome2hell - August 5, 2008 04:24 PM (GMT)
Well.. my parents are chinese, but I was born in Germany and we still live here. I can speak Chinese, German, English, French and a little bit Italian. Well, my Chinese isn't very well since I left the kindergarden.. But I go to a Chinese school every Saturday. I learn English for about 4-5 years and French since 2 years at my school. I don't like French.. but I want to change that 'cause I was in France and I forgot my French.. It was disappointing.
In the future I wanna learn Italian and maybe Spanish.
In Germany the schools encourage foreign languages. So if you're at grammar school or something like that you can/have to learn 2 or 3 languages..
