Title: what to do with an entire life?
Description: ...sigh.... graduation's approaching....

*LIE

Maybe this isn't the right kind of place to post this kind of thing but I've been very irritated lately so this is where I'm going to let out my post-teenage, probably quarter-life crisis angst....

I'm a junior in college and I need to start thinking about what I'm going to do when I graduate.... *OMG

I majoring in music and math and I tell myself I'd love to continue performing (I really think I would) except that I'm not good and I also have some serious tendinitis-ish problems....

But I don't want to do some lame stupid math related desk job *RUN

(I think) all I really want to do is work in the orchestra for an opera or ballet company... that would be the life *NOSE

but it'll probably be years before that happens *SIGH

and on top of having to decide this, I have my family annoying me cuz my parents never wanted me to do music in the first place so they're jumping on the tendinitis thing as a "you must quit" kind of deal

and so I don't even know how much of my "I want to perform" inclination is that I actually want to do it and how much is just a "mus prove parents wrong" kind of impulse.... what if I won't actually enjoy it in the end? *SHOCK

well i'm done ranting now... *DROP

any suggestions? *WALL

Well, do you enjoy editing the manga on here? You could pursue a professional career in that or something related. Have you tried writing music at all? Are you good at drawing at all? Do you enjoy using a computer? Do you like being outdoors or indoors more? Do you want a job you can do at home or do you want to go to work? Do you like taking pictures? Do you plan on being a parent?

You should answer some of these questions, that will help you find something, and it will help us search. Plus everyone pitch in to figure out questions to help!

I'm happy, I already know what I'm going to do!

ahh i've thought about all these things... my problem is i dont like the idea of committing to something *NOOO

i just need to get over myself *CHOMP

You could always teach people how to... um... no I got nothing, sorry!

No, I'm just joking! I'll have to think about this and get back to you! (Which means I'll probably forget and then the next time I get on here remember and come up with something to say quickly, no I'm just joking again!)

hmmm~ you could always be a music teacher in a school, who also doubles as a maths teacher as your last resort. I say last resort because from what I heard, teaching is a stressful job, that doesn't pay as much as it should *WIPE though if you are also a maths teacher, that might pay more...*??

I've got nothing else *WIPE sorry...

haha thanks for the help guys.... *SIGH this is something i gotta figure out on my own @@

i was just being whiny *XD

but enough about me, what about you all? what kinds of things would you like to do?

pizza2004 - January 6, 2009 06:53 PM (GMT)
Well, I'm going to be a computer programmer, I've probably said that before. I also like taking pictures, singing, dancing, playing video games, think of creative ideas, and running. So I have plenty of options for myself!

AngelIvory - January 6, 2009 08:03 PM (GMT)
*WIPE well I'm pretty much in the same position as you Berry, but I have the advantage that I've still got time to figure out what I want to study that leads onto a career.

I honestly don't know what to do *DROP I was thinking of studying maths because I like maths, but I don't want an office job either *cries and there's not really many other options that I would like if I choose maths...but it's the thing I'm best at *WIPE

I also thought of taking a science and becoming a scientist...but for some reason I think that scientists must have some sort of scientific breakthrough to make money *XD

Ahh I also want to do graphic design! For CD covers, posters, etc. or maybe like pizza said, do editing for money, that would be an awesome job *LOVE

So many options~ I have so many dream jobs, its just whether I can achieve them or not *ARM Oh we could always marry someone rich and not work *EVIL

berry - January 6, 2009 10:01 PM (GMT)
it's annoying to be interested in lots of things but i guess it's good too cuz then if you get bored with one, you have other options instead of being stuck in a boring job you don't like!

haha marry someone rich? you know it's funny cuz at this point in my life, i don't think i want to get married! *XD

This topic is a little old and you might probably have an answer by this time, but I suggest you should think about what you like to do. Never go for the money, is what I always say. Like you said, being in an office is pretty boring and marrying someone for money is just not an option. So maybe, if you like, you could think about options that you can imagine yourself working happily.

I don't think I've helped, but it's the thought that counts, right? *EYES

haha thanks Edward! i haven't actually figured out my problem yet, but that'll probably take years for me to figure out what i want to do with my life...

well i guess that's kind of not true, i'm giving a recital in the beginning of march and i've been really busy preparing for it and in the process, i've started to realize just how much music matters to me just for myself and not anything else

now i just have to wait patiently as life unfolds becuase who knows what will happen... in the mean time, i should probably figure out what kind of job i'll do temporarily for after i graduate so that way i can still survive for a bit while i still sort things out

Rini - February 9, 2009 11:27 PM (GMT)
job hop :D

you could also do multiple things at the same time, like writing music while being a math teacher or something o_O

berry - February 11, 2009 04:53 AM (GMT)
@rini: ahh yeah taht's what i'm thinking about doing (or something like that) at least for a little while, as i still try to sort things out... who knows what will happen over the next few months tho (i dont graduate until may 2010)

pizza2004 - February 11, 2009 09:34 AM (GMT)
Lol, I remember this topic! Well, it is good that you are working things out a little now, my brother is going to have a hard time for a while now. My brother and I both have behavioral disabilities that make it hard to make friends and make us view social circumstances differently. Well, my brother has really liked this girl since 8th grade (He is 20 now) and just recently learned she doesn't have any romantic feelings for him. This wouldn't be too bad, but you add on the fact that this is the only girl he has liked in my recollection, and that he had made plans for his future that included her (whether intentional or not) so he took it really hard, he probably won't find another person to like for a while because to him you only date a person if you like them, and he only starts liking them if he is forced into a situation where he must learn to like them, *SIGH but hopefully that will change.
