An editor is someone who levels, rotates, and cleans the raw scan, taking out the japanese text and redrawing/cloning in any missing parts of the image. Then the editor puts the English translation into the cleaned scan. The most common program used for editing is Adobe Photoshop. A J-E proofreader must be sufficiently proficient in both Japanese and English so that he/she can proofread the translation and make sure that it is accurate to the Japanese text and grammatically correct in English.
