Cheebs - January 12, 2008 12:29 AM (GMT)
*HMMM Well luckily I don't have that problem since I tell them it helps with my Japanese. *POINT
But I really suck at advice so I can't really tell you much, except that if my parents would tell me something like that I'd just ignore them. *DUNNO
strawberryvanilla_0510 - January 12, 2008 12:43 AM (GMT)
yea... but you are almost and adult!!!!!!!!!! *NOOO *RUN i am not even a teen yet... i am only 12... so my parents would get mad and then i can't use the computer... which is even worse!!!!!!! *OMG *CHOMP *NOOO

Cheebs - January 12, 2008 06:57 AM (GMT)
Well now, when you turn 13 you can tell them you're being rebellious. *HMMM
Raine - January 12, 2008 12:40 PM (GMT)
lol, true true.
but then again, just tell them you have some kind of interest in Japan and it's culture. THEN go on about how manga has been around in Japan for a long long time (which is technically true), and how anime and manga are at the top of what is considered part of modern japanese "culture". And if you want to go even further, go buy manga in japanese and tell your parents that you're going to take up learning Japanese as some kind of second language or something, and show them the manga. It'll probably work if you can actually read it. XDD
Raine - January 12, 2008 12:42 PM (GMT)
well, be glad that at least you probably won't run into the problem with your parents being able to actually READ japanese and figure out that you can't XDD
(unless you can *?? )
Cheebs - January 12, 2008 07:51 PM (GMT)
strawberryvanilla_0510 - January 12, 2008 10:45 PM (GMT)
we all know you can cheebs... because you can do a lot of things!!!! you are special in a good way!!!! *XD
i don't think my parents would believe the part about the culture..... and about how i can read japanese... i really want to take it up though..... i just don't know when and who is going to teach me!!!!!!! *RUN
lolz to the rebellious stage thing.... i don't think that would work but thanx for the offer!!!!!!
Liz *HI
lilea - January 12, 2008 10:55 PM (GMT)
You're probably not going to like my advice, but forgive me, I'm a huge goody-two-shoes at heart. *WIPE
If you can't take the educational spin on things, I think that you should work on showing them that you are able to juggle both the things that they wish for you to be doing (such as HW, chores, whatever) and what you wish to do. As long as you are doing well in other areas of your life, there should be no reason why you can't have a hobby of sorts that you enjoy. This might mean that you may need to work harder on school work and stuff, leaving you with less time to devote to anime and manga, but to me that's a good thing in the long run.
And you should show initiative and try to start learning Japanese on your own if it truly interests you.
strawberryvanilla_0510 - January 12, 2008 11:21 PM (GMT)
its ok.... i like your answer!!!!!! *GOOD
i have juggled things already. i take school, chinese school, ccb, piano, violin, swimming, drawing, ballet two times a week, SAT class, etc. i have a lot... i rarely have that much free time! but, my parents allow it, they just don't like it as much as i have done it everyday... which isn't much!!! when i go to the bookstore, i read a lot of manga...

hotpinkluver - February 2, 2008 12:59 AM (GMT)
I have the same problem too!!!! Parents just dont understan *RUN !!!!!! But my parents and i have a deal going if i keep up my grades and read actual books too (thats what they say) then they wont say anything about my manga addiction (thats what they call it)................. So my advice to you is to show your parents that you can handle your studies and your work around the house while still reading manga (does that make sence i dont know *DROP ) Anyway just prove to your parents that manga isnt a bad thing..........
chasiewbao - February 2, 2008 03:37 AM (GMT)
hmm, my parents never actually cared about what i did online *?? now that i think about it
do you use the computer in the public room, that is y ur parents see u looking at manga? sorry i don't have advice, mine is the same as everyone else's *CHOMP
Lila - February 4, 2008 01:47 AM (GMT)
you could always tell them that they're lucky that your hobby is just manga/anime because it could be worse. @@
Cheebs - February 4, 2008 02:04 AM (GMT)
Yeah you could be into drugs. *WIPE
chasiewbao - February 4, 2008 02:55 AM (GMT)

Cheebs - February 4, 2008 03:05 AM (GMT)

ranmyaku - February 10, 2008 03:19 AM (GMT)
hey i want to know japanese also and i have the hiragana and katakana charts as well as the first kanji de manga book but my problem is finding reliable translations but do you guys practice over and over to the point where you already know the words while looking at raw mangas?
chasiewbao - February 10, 2008 06:45 AM (GMT)
hmm i guess you just keep reading and reading and eventually you don't need to look up as many words. like, in english, you just keep reading things until it is automatic. but there are still sometimes words you don't know in english, so u still have to look it up. same concept i guess...? *??
ranmyaku - February 10, 2008 06:05 PM (GMT)
yea thnx that gives me a little more confidence that i can do it when yo pt it like that
icecheetah - March 10, 2008 05:36 PM (GMT)
Tell them that you need at LEAST half an hour (an hour?) of fun a day or your stress levels will affect your preformance, and say that manga is one of those fun things you can do!
mikariangel - April 19, 2008 03:07 AM (GMT)
okok.. i no this is old.. but this is so funny!!!!!! *XD
very nice advice peoplez... xD

Candi - April 22, 2008 02:05 AM (GMT)
awww, this happens all the time =[
Well for me, my parents dont even know what I usually do on the computer o.o''
Once in a while they'll go like, "Are you watching dat anime thing againeh?"
But like, I hardly watch anime anymore.
I usually get at least 30 minutes of manga after I do homework or else I dont survive for the next school day. XD
Its rlly boring in math class since we're going very slowly, thats why manga gets me through it ^^
mikariangel - April 23, 2008 08:16 PM (GMT)
lolz... nice! xD
i know this is off topic but.. candi, i saw your banner on photobucket! xD
EdwardCullen17 - March 17, 2009 12:11 PM (GMT)
@Candi; Same with me *DROP My parents say that I'm watching 'cartoons' again, even though my brothers know it's Anime. My older brother reads manga and watches anime too, but he's the rebelious child in the family, so I'm not allowed to watch anime or read manga *NOOO *DROP ---- but that doesn't stop me *GLINT I still read manga all the time, very sneakingly. Also, I quit Anime because it took too long to watch the episodes and I like mangas because they're faster~ *ROLL
(Wow *SHOCK I typed a whole lot *XD )
--xBaaKaa - August 8, 2009 03:43 PM (GMT)
Same trouble wif u . My parents just kept saying that its all cartoon . But mangas , i really think that it helped wif my english & friendship & relationships troubles . So how abt u try to say that to her too ? Maybe it will work ? *XD .
Watermoon44 - September 20, 2009 02:45 AM (GMT)
LOL i have the same problem! i'm also 12, and my mom thinks that manga and anime are a waste of time *RUN she tells me not to read it but i ignore them, and read it in my free time after i'm done with all of my work *XD
